REDUNDANCY MAN

An investor pulled out of my company (unrelated to the company, they were cutting losses from other investments going sour) so I am once more in search of work. Ah well. I am beginning to feel like the Kiss Of Death for companies, but as yet I have done nothing wrong so it's not something I'm going to let annoy me.

In other news, Tom has pointed out that the "Accessibility" link on confused.com is an inline Javascript link. Way to go!

That sucks man. Have you thought about what kind of work you want to be looking for next? More of the same, or something a bit different?

My workmates from this most recent place are encouraging me to go for something higher level, like a senior developer position or whatever, because they think I'd be good at it. I'm tempted but for that sort of position you generally need 2 or 3 times the experience I have, at least. I have some friends in some companies who are trying to get me interviews in any case.

As for whether I keep doing the same kind of work, I think I will definitely stay within the realm of software development. It's what I enjoy, and it's what I'm good at. As with the last time I was jobhunting my focus is on getting involved with work that I find interesting more than much else, although I have more of an interest in the actual process than I did before.

What are you up to these days, incidentally?

I'm working here at the moment, doing some J2ME development.

It's weird actually, because while I was jobhunting I'd sent my CV to a girl that was in my year at school, who was working in IT recruitment at the time. Turns out she wasn't the only girl from my year working there, I met the other one in the pub a few weeks ago. She asked me what I was up to now, and I said J2ME development, and she said that it was an in-demand skill, they always had trouble filling those jobs.

I never would have guessed that I would've been able to say 'J2ME' to her and have her understand what I meant.

Try asking her what that actually means ;)

Anything Java- or .NET-related seems to be in demand, I'm trying not to specialise too much on one or the other to be honest.
